Breastfeeding issues?

I have been exclusively breast-feeding my son for almost seven weeks now. I am not sure why he started this but he gets so fussy when I try to feed him. It's not a latching problem because he is gaining the right amount, he has the correct amount of wet diapers, I don't have any soreness or pain, and he takes deep gulps when he drinks. I have tried every different position possible to feed him and it doesn't help. I don't think it is anything I am eating because I have cut out the things that seemes to make him upset and it didn't help. I don't know what it is. I don't want to introduce a bottle but I think maybe I should to see if it will reduce his fussiness. I would pump for the bottle but I was wondering if this would effect my supply at all? Would it effect my supply if I solely pumped? would it be difficult to find additional time for the maintenance of the pump and everything else? His fussiness started in weeks two sometime and has only gotten worse. It seems like it might be gas because he starts kicking and pulling and pushing my breast so I can't get it in his mouth. When I swaddle him it seems to get better but not all of the time. Should I just try to wait it out? Has anyone gone through this before? It gets so frustrating for the both of us I feel like I am a bad mom for not being able to fix this for him.

My baby just cried for 3 hours straight!?! ?

My son is 5 weeks old and he started crying at 10 and finally passed around a little after 1. I breastfeed but sometimes supplement formula. I breastfed on both breasts off and on an hour before he started crying. I fed him 2 oz of formula around 11 after breastfeeding the whole first hour he cried. He kept pulling off and crying and crying. I changed his diaper twice. I tried swaddling him, rocking him, humming to him, making sure he wasn't hot or cold, make sure nothing on his body hurt, bouncing him, dancing with him, breastfeeding him more, burping him, doing the bicyle motion, holding him laying across my chest (how you hold gassy babies) burped him some more. He spit up and acted hungry but pulled off the breast everytime I tried to feed him. I fed him 1 more oz of formula around 1245 and he took it no problem. After he finished it he cried some more finally I layed down put him on my chest and let him cry. That only lasted 10 min and he FINALLY fell asleep. My question is what else can I do if this happens again? Why do you think this happened? My thought was gas. I'm praying that he doesn't have colic :(I went crazy trying to help him but didn't know what else to do. I felt so bad for him. If it helps he never usually spits up maybe once every two days. But today he has spit up ALL day at least 30 times. He also has a stuffy nose I have been suctioning it out throught the day. He was a little fussy yesterday morning also but not this bad at all he cried off and on for maybe an hour. But he usually doesn't do this.

ok, so I know they say not to put cereal in a bottle... and not to feed cereal to a baby until they are older, but here is my situation... i am a recently single mother of 2, and my youngest is 6 weeks. I am doing EVERYTHING on my own and was not expecting this. The sleepless nights are catching up with me, since my 6 week old wakes up every hour an a half to 2 hours at night. We're in bed by 10 pm and up by 5 am with little sleep in between. I have tried everything... bedtime routine, baths, white noise quiet time, sleeping with me, sleeping on his own, swaddling, not swaddling.... literally everything! I have had some advice to put just a little cereal in his bottle at bed time to hold him over a little longer... any advise? I want to do whats right for my baby, but I also need to stay sane in the process?? Thank You!!

Baby due in July, do I sound like I have the right clothes?

Hi I live in IL (northern, 15 min from WI border actually) and I had my son on July 17 and he weighed 6lbs and 7 ounces. He fit into newborn stuff for the first month or so and by the time September came around he was in 0-3mo. I think it sounds perfect for what you have. I would recommend maybe like 3 pairs of little shorts for him. I know we had a couple pretty hot days here and I was glad I had shorts for my son. When I brought him home he was in a onesie and shorts set with a receiving blanket, it was 87 and sunny that day but very humid. Also I still put socks on my son, even in the summer because I was always afraid of his feet getting cold. I would always carry some pants and a little jacket with you too because the one thing with having a summer baby is having it so hot outside and chilly inside from air conditioning. You may need more for 3-6 months but I think you're sitting pretty well so far. Good luck, you're going to LOVE having a summer baby. It was much easier because by the time the weather breaks and gets super cold (and us here in the midwest know how that is, we can have all 4 seasons in one week) the baby is already older and not as "fragile" as far as getting sick. I always carried variety of clothing for my son between summer and fall since the weather can be unpredictable. But in winter it's pretty much a given they'll have to be bundled up. Also my son always sweated with the newborn hats on when we first brought him home, they say to keep it on for at least the first month but I only put it on him at night for about 2 weeks because he was a little sweat box!! :)

My 3 day old newborn not crying?

I went through the exact same thing. My baby daughter would just sleep and sleep, we had so much trouble waking her up the first two days. And when we got her home she would just sleep, as long as she's eating regularly it's normal. As for the breathing babies breath rapidly because they breath with their diaphragm. The grunts are also normal, my baby is the noisiest sleeper she grunts all the time i was told that it was all normal. as for the clammy cheeks she may just be a little warm check the back of her neck and see if its sweaty if it is then she's too warm. If you really are worried pop to the doctor or your health care visitor and have them check her over.

If my baby wears a nightgown, do i need to put socks on her?

I have some cotton nightgowns (long-sleeved, straight bottom that is open at the end) for my 3 month old. It's pretty chilly at night in my house, about 62 degrees. What should i do about my baby's fussiness?

When my son was first born i breast fed but i all of a sudden stopped producing. So we tried to the regular formula from similac. then because my son was throwing up we switched to soy. he was still extremely fussy at night (and still is) so last night i looked up colic. he has every symptom. the only thing he likes out of all the suggestions is being rocked. Then I red about this formula that is supposedly hypoallergenic i give it to him twice and he puked both times, which on the soy he doesnt, he just cries for hours and i mean hours. but then i read the back of the label on this hypoalergenic formula and its made from milk just broken down more. The doctor said he is really healthy and there is no real reason for him to be crying. Wat can I do to help him? of course im feeding him the soy again

My 6 month old daughter wont sleep?

I need some advise... My daughter is 6 months old. Shes been sleeping in our room in her bassinett since birth, we have been swaddling her until a few days ago, and now she wont sleep unless im holding her or shes in bed next to me and even then shes up at least 3 times. She went to bed at 10:00 and its midnight and this is the 3rd time shes been up screaming until i picked her up. I dont know what to do! It doesnt help if hubby holds her she only wants me! How do I get my 4 month old to fall asleep on his own?

So my son just turned 4 months old yesterday, and he does not sleep well at all. He is exclusively breastfed, and the only way I can get him to fall asleep is to swaddle him tightly and nurse him laying down in bed until he falls asleep then I have to gently put him in his crib without waking him up, if he wakes up in the night I have to do the same thing to get him back to sleep, even though I'm sure he isn't hungry. My son will be 4 months on May 21st, and ever since he was 2 weeks old he always cries before he goes to sleep. The only few times he has not cried first has been driving in the car. Boyfriend is weird after sex?

I have no idea what to paint. I have asked people, but they suggest the overly done things like a flower, a landscape, a field with sheep and a dog. I usually draw things that are a bit more eerie, grotesque, or macabre. My style is usually focusing on one object or thing with a black or unearthly background. Why is my two week old moving allot in his sleep?

It's normal. My 21 mo old was the same way and still is. To this day, she moves all over the crib when sleeping and constantly makes noises. I would find her as an infant with her legs up in the air, sleeping with her legs stuck through the crib bars, rolling around in her sleep, etc. She would always wake up whimpering because she was stuck in the top corner of the crib. Baby won't sleep in his crib?

The only place my 3 month old son will sleep is in his swing. We've tried everything to get him to sleep in his crib but he cries every time and will not settle down until he is put in his swing. Swaddling, white noise, heart beat noises, a shirt i'd been wearing tied to the railing...nothing works. He has moderate reflux so his bed is at an angle with a rolled towel under the sheet to keep him from slipping down. Letting him cry it out, even for just a couple minutes, just sends him in into a frenzied tantrum and he breaks blood vessels in his eyes. I can't stand to see him so upset but I can't keep buying batteries and sleeping on the couch to be next to him because he wakes up periodically is getting really hard on my back. 8hours is no where near enough sleep. It's normal for a overtired baby to nap for 30 minutes then wake up. Also when they are over tired they wake with the startled sleep patteren. 3 week old baby wont stop moving!?

2week old newborn wont sleep in his crib?

Ill rock him till he's drifting off and lay him in it and hell lay for 5mins then start crying, he has a chair he sits and sleeps in during the day and he has no problem getting himself to sleep init even without the vibrations and music playing. I have tried swaddling and my midwife was not best pleased, he seems to like sleeping sitting up but I don't think its very safe to prop him up in his crib, should I let him sleep in his chair at night and try his crib again when he is a month or so old?

My son is 4 months old & for most of his young life, he has taken every nap & bedtime in an infant swing. After his 4 month checkup Monday at which the doctor said I could sleep train him, I have been putting him in his crib to sleep. He does well with very little crying (I was afraid he might not sleep without motion) but the problem is he HAS to be swaddled. He squirms & startles himself awake if he isn't. But he's teething so he constantly wants his hands in his mouth, so no matter how tight I swaddle him, he gets them up, loosens the blanket & wakes up crying. So I want to know if anybody has used the HALO blankets or the Miracle Blanket (I think it's called that) & if you have, did they work or did you like them? I want to know if I'll get my money's worth before I buy one.

Soothing a 1 month old infant?

i have a 2.5 and 1 month old. i realize that she's only a month... and that this will get better... but ever since she was a few days old from 10pm to 1am she's very hard to sooth. i've checked whether she's hot, cold, diaper, full belly, gas drops, rub belly, legs, arms, head etc... swaddled, unswaddled kept her awake before hand...probably some other things. she is completely content all during the day and the rest of the night. i'll take any suggestions.... How and when do you break a child from being swaddled?

My daughter is over 8 months old and will only sleep well if she is swaddled. We have tried breaking her from it many times but always after a week or two of bad sleeping give in and swaddle her. Your son sounds very normal for a 4 month old. 3 naps a day is normal at that age. Making him sleep less will just make him overtired and he will be cranky and have trouble settling down at night, making the whole thing worse - believe me, I tried this with my first baby! Some babies just need more night-time feedings than others. Hang in there! He'll sleep longer when he is ready.

Your baby is cranky and doesn't sleep because she overtired ( I know, it sounds like a contradiction). She should be put to bed way earlier than 11 pm (she is still a baby), maybe around 8 pm? A couple of other things: LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF TV she watches, that will over excite her so then she cannot sleep, and also limit the amount of refined sugar in her diet (check the labels, everything has added sugar, especially the cereal). I know it is really, really hard with the new baby, but your daughter needs some sort of a regular schedule. You said that you tried to put her to bed earlier and she screams, it'll take a couple of nights, but she really needs to go to bed earlier. Try putting her to bed 15 minutes earlier every day, that might work. Good luck!

3 1/2 month old still wanting to be swaddled?

I have a 3 1/2 month old, and the ONLY way I can get her to sleep in her crib is to swaddle her. She is 24 inches long, so it's getting very hard to find a swaddle that fits her weill w/o bunching her legs up (I have 3 right now, but they are getting small on her and will not work for much longer). I have no idea how to get her to sleep without being swaddled. I am glad that it works for now, but when she gets a little longer- How do I get her to sleep without it? I would like to start now so that she is used to it, plus since it's the summer, I feel bad having her swaddled. On the warmer nights, I put her in a diaper and then the swaddle, otherwise she wears a onesie and then the swaddle. Any one go through this at all? Any suggestions on how to get her to not NEED to be swaddled? She fights her naps like crazy too, screams to keep herself awake, all the while falling asleep at the same time. I have tried swaddling her for naps as well, which cuts down some on the nap fighting, but she still sleeps only an hour. She sleeps through the night (from 10p.m until about 9:30a.m) but her naps are literally about an hour 2-3 times a day. Which, if that's why she sleeps through the night, that's fine. Lol. But I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this as well. Any suggestions on how to get her to be ok with not being swaddled would be great! Okay so I asked a question a few days ago about my baby's sleep problems and I got a lot of answers that didn't really help, I think I wasn't detailed enough. My son is 18 weeks old, and has never slept through a night. I exclusively breastfeed him and love holding him. But he does not sleep well at all. I try to do a bedtime routine... bath, jammies, swaddle, nurse laying down, rocking the chair and singing lullabies. But no matter how early I start the routine I can't seem to get him to sleep any earlier than 10 or sometimes later. His first stretch of sleep he spends in his playpen bassinet next to my bed, and it always the longest. But sometimes it only lasts for 2 hours before he is up and crying for me. When he wakes up I only unswaddle for a clean diaper if he is wet, and I nurse him lying down in bed with no lights or noise. Sometimes he falls right back to sleep in about 20 minutes but it can also take up to an hour to get him back to sleep. He then wakes up every 20 minutes to 2 hours after that to nurse until his dad gets up for work at 5 am and bring him into bed with me where he'll sleep for about another hour and a half. We then start our day at about 7 or 8 am. Throughout the day he takes short naps, anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, but usually in my arms. He is always cranky an I'm sure its because he is tired but I can't get him to sleep for any length of time so he can get some rest. The only 2 answers I can seem to get to my problem is either to let him cry himself to sleep or to just deal with it, but neither seem like acceptable solutions to me. I love my son so much and would do anything for him, so please no judge mental responses, I know I am a good mother and no one will convince me otherwise.

Is it time to stop swaddling my son?

yes stop swaddling him. If his arms are swaddled he cant get them loose im guessing his face could be in the mattress, id be nervous too. I stopped swaddling around 4 1/2 months but i had the swaddles with the velcro on them, so i would put my babys legs in the swaddle and then wrap the rest under his arms so they were free. I hope that makes sense... I did that till about 5months then just stopped. He was never a good sleeper so like you he woke every two hours. Good luck

At what age did your baby start sleeping longer periods at night?

Try making a very consistent routine before night sleep. Whatever you want to be a part of the routine is fine - bath, book, massage, song - along with changing diaper and feeding. Do everything the in the same order every night. When he wakes at night be extremely boring. No talking, no playing, no giggles. Just answer his basic needs. During the day when he wakes up make sure you are interactive, playful, and give him lots of attention. He will get a better sense that he is expected to have fun awake periods during the day, and not so much at night. You can let him cry a little bit - it is not abandoning him to leave him go for 5 or 10 minutes. Sometimes babies will wake and cry out, and in a few minutes settle down and go back to sleep. You can give him a little time to see if that is the case before you go to him. My favorite sleep book is Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth. He is a pediatrician and sleep researcher. Very helpful information. Good luck.

My baby is 4 months old, and I do not know how to cover her when she's sleeping at night. She does not like to be swaddled anymore and takes her arms out... and when I touch her arms, they would be cold. I've tried a loose blanket, attended, and came back to find it right over her face. So I don't think this is an option to use at night for now. I've also tried the sleeping bags, and she gets all sweaty and cries, she hates them. I'm really confused about what to do... swaddling her was great, until she grew out of it now.

I get Nutramigen on WIC. My doctor had to fill out the WIC form as to why...and I am also breastfeeding and they still cover it. They also cover my lactose free milk, as the doctor was worried about the cow milk protein not only in the formula but possibly in my breastmilk. Speak to your pediatrican, get the form from WIC, and you shouldn't have any trouble. If you do...ask to speak to the director of the local office. You really shouldn't have ANY problems, other than my grocery store has to have a manager come override it every time I go get the nutramigen. (due to the cost and not being what is normally covered). Best of luck

6 month old sleeping tips?

My baby is about to be 6 months old, this is my first child, and i think i've gotten myself into a sticky situation. My son will sleep for four hours the first time I put him down at night (maybe, but not always!) then he wakes every three hours like clockwork. (lately he's been waking every 2 and 1/2 hours!) Also, he will only sleep that long if he is swaddled. (When he cries for me, i go in his room, and hes out of the swaddle.) This is the only way! If i don't swaddle him (or hold him like i do at nap time :[ ) he will not sleep longer then about 20 minutes. i tried the "cry it out" but he is quite stubborn and i'm not comfortable with how long he can cry and cry and cry. I want him to sleep better so i can be happier during the day :(

I found 3 robin eggs and when I candled them I could see blood vessels and veins and could see a dark red spot inside one of them that could be a heart .I have put them in a basket with hamster fluff to swaddle them and a heat dish on low to try and incubate them.With two of them you can see yolk floats to the top when you turn it but the one with the heart no yolk does not float to the top.

ok so i have been dating this guy for a ouple of months, hes everything i have ever wnated except one thing.. and to be honest i dont know what it is. I do this because sometimes when she is done nursing she will Suckle on me for 30 min or more if I will let her. She will not continue to eat, just Suckle. For the past 3 weeks all she has wanted to do is have me in her mouth. She refuses to sleep on het cosleeper and instead of going every 2-3 hours between nursing I am lucky to get 1 hour. I cannot get anything done. A paci will not satisfy her but she needs to learn some other way of comfort besides me right? Do not say I am being cruel or this is what being a mom is about. Because every 30 min to an hour is to much. And she cannot be going through a 3 week growth spurt. How can I get her to stop using me as a pacifier? How can I get her to sleep on her bed? The moment she is down her eyes are open. She hates having her arms swaddled too so I only.do her lower body. Rocking doesn't work either. Help?

How to break the swaddle habit: Tips?

My 5 and 1/2 month old still NEEDS to be swaddled to be able to sleep at night. He can't roll from back to stomach yet, but when he does I don't want to be swaddling him anymore. Any ideas on how to break the habit?

Trouble with a girl and my best friend.?

I met this girl about a year ago now. We became extremely good friends and I liked her for a long time. My friend also began to like her. My friend and I are the same person basically. We are shy and not good with people. Socially awkward one might say. Anyways we both confronted her one night that we like her. And to our surprise she actually had crushes on both of us. So at this point she wouldnt allow anything to happen because it wouldnt be right to the other person. I was really hurt because I liked her so much. I eventually confronted my friend and told him how I felt and he said he felt the same way and that he wouldnt be comfortable with me dating her. So time went on. I tried to hold her hand and cuddle and stuff and she said no because it wouldnt be right. So I gave up with that. Later on I she finially let me hold her hand. I then decided that I like her enough that I should show it. Thats not generally me. Like I said. I'm shy so I wanted to show I really like her. So I invited her over to tell her face to face that I think shes pretty and exactly how I felt. And she said she could see her dating me the most because we talk the most and stuff. Anyway. I thought thought my friend wasnt as intirtested in her anymore. I eneded up cuddling with her and later making out. SHe has never had a boyfriend so I thought it was really cool that I was the first person she made out with. I asked her out and she said she would have to think about it. Anyyways. Just yesterday. My friend and my other friend (the one who likes her) had us get together because he knew both sides of the story. The story being that of we have both made out with her. This killed me. I didn't think or didnt want to know that my friend made pulled moves on the girl I liked. It hurt me more that this happened like months ago and several times. So I find out I was not the first person she made out with. And also I held back because she said it wouldnt be right to the ohter person. And here I find out she was just doing that will my friend. I just don't know what to think or do. I am mad at her because she didnt tell me that she was doing things with my friend and she only felt bad about it once we actually found out about it. It didnt seem to bother her at all before. I'm sorry if this is too long and a mess. I am just typing what I'm thinking and not looking back at what I'm writing. But I basically havnt talked to her for two days now. SHe wasnt dating any of us so it's not like she was wrong doing. So maybe I shouldnt be mad. But still. This changes the exerpince we had together and also I don;t know if I can be friends with her anymore. First because of this situation and because we vertainly cant go out at this point and I don't know if I can handle being friends with someone I like a lot. I've been dealing with it for a long time now and its hard. Basically what I want to know is should i talk to her? I've just been ignoring her. We talked a little right after I found out. I'm just so mad and I like being her friend so much. She is my best "girl" friend and I am her best guy friend. I don't want that to be ruined but maybe it has too. I just dont know. She has had these troubles since she was born. Pulling up her Knees and screaming crying . She has never slept like a "newborn" should. Her doctor told me she's healthly and to dry gripe water. Tried many different things and nothing helps. I've swaddled her, pat her, swayed, rocked, bounced, sing, and bought all gagets out there, I've done it all. Even stoped breastfeeding thinking it was my diet doing it and switched many formulas. Oh ya even bought dr. Browns bottles. Still screams and woken up out of a deep sleep like this. Overactive newborn who fights sleep - anyone experienced this?

My mother told me years ago that I was the exact same way. Mom made sure I was clean, dry, fed and warm, but all I would do was cry. After several weeks, she decided to flip me over onto my stomach, I went right off to sleep. It could be just such a small thing as that You must break this routine you have set and try something simple and new. I always had set times for naps and bedtime. Prior to each, the child was given a drink (bottle and later a cup of milk or water) Nothing with sugar or caffeine. We had "quiet time" for one hour prior to bed. I would use this time to calm them by reading or soft music. Then they were put to bed with a favorite stuff toy, I would spend just a few short minutes kissing them good night, covering them (letting them know they are loved and safe) then I would leave the room. Letting a child dictate to you now is only setting yourself up for temper tantrums later when they don't get their way. Your child must be taught a schedule, it will make her feel secure. Sometimes a child is not sleepy at nap time, and that's ok, but they still need their rest. Let her "play" or scream her little head off, but let her stay in bed for at least 1 hour. She will get the message. Also do not run to check on her if she cries because she doesn't want to go to bed, let her cry herself to sleep. You can tell the difference between a tantrum cry and a hurt cry. Don't give in. She will. Good luck

EAT/SLEEP QUESTION about 11 week old?

My 11 week old eats 4 oz every 4 hours and goes to bed around 9:30 pm. She sleeps until 2 or 3 and eats. She falls back asleep until 5 and wakes every hour after until 7:30 or so. She eats when she wakes that last time. She usually takes a 2 1/2 hour nap once and little naps after that. She has to be swaddled to sleep for a long period and has to be in swing or held during the day to stay asleep. She sleeps just fine in her bassinet at night though. I guess my question is if this is a normal pattern. I forgot to mention that she has to be almost completely asleep before she goes down at night and completely asleep before you can put her down during the day.

im a 1st time mom and the first week was fine but once we were in the second week, my son started not sleeping during the day unless he's in someones arms! i will rock him to sleep and then lay him in his bassinet (with a full stomach, clean diaper, and swaddled) but 10 mins later, he cries and cries until i pick him up. what can i do???

Not all the time, babies need to move to build muscles, but ifit helps when the baby is fussy its fine for sometimes.

Okay, before I had my som my MIL told me that she read an email that swaddling was bad recently. This was brought up because she asked something about the blankets in the crib(i can't remember exactly) and I told her we were going to use a swaddle me breathable baby blanket. I asked he why and se said she didn't remember and that I would have to look it up. I did and found nothing. I have never had anyone else tell me it is bad and even the nurses did it at the hospital. Is there anything bad about swaddling babies?

My daughter used to eat then pass out as soon as you put her in bed. But the first time i took her to her first Dr's appointment and she met the car seat it was like love at first sight. My 11 month old female cat is hissing, growling & attacking my 3 young female cats... I have 8 cats all together... but my female cat bella if fine with the older cats - She just attacks her sister and the 2 younger cats... the 2 younger cats are also female the 1 is about 8 monthes and the other 1 is 8 weeks. Apart from the 8 week old cat have been spayed so thats not it... Up untill about a month ago bella and her sister and the other cats used to cuddle up together eat from the same bowls and licked eachother.. but all of a sudden bella has been hissing at them and recently hissing at me.. but when shes in a room on her own and i go in there shes fine with me and puurs and licks me.. its just when she sees the other 3.. But i only just had the 8 week old kitten last week and she was like it a few weeks before that so its not the new kitten doing it. So i really dont know why bella is doing it... she goes out alot longer than the other cats?? Maybe thats why???
