Constantly hungry and crying newborn?

my newborn is 13 days old. i breastfeed him every 2 to 2.5 hours. for the past 2 days he has been staying awake for almost 5 hours at a time and cries when i put him in his bassinet. he wants to feed constantly. my milk has come in, but he empties both breasts and continues sucking. after he dalls asleep, i burp him and swaddle him and then hold him a little longer to make sure he is still asleep. when i lay him in the bassinet he starts whining which turns into crying if i don't pick him up. it's starting to worry me and i'm completely exhausted. is this normal? we have his pediatrician appt on monday, but just wanting to know if this is typical or something to worry about.
